Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how AI Salary Report ("we", "us") handles information when you visit aisalaryreport.com (the "Site").
Information collected when you visit
- Request data. Our hosting provider processes standard request data, including IP address, browser type, the page requested and the referring address, to deliver and secure the Site.
- Approximate location. Our server learns from our hosting provider the country, region and city your connection appears to come from, and records only that approximate location, never your IP address.
- First-party analytics. A small script of our own on each page reports to our own server the pages you view, the page address (including campaign tags such as utm_source) and the page you came from, your screen and window size, how far down a page you scroll, how long a page is in view, whether a recommendation on a page comes into view, and the links and buttons you click: their text, their address and where on the page you clicked. The script loads nothing from other companies, sets no cookies itself and stores nothing in your browser.
- Browser and device type. Our server reads the browser name and version, the operating system and the device type (desktop, mobile or tablet) from the user agent your browser sends. We do not record the user agent itself.
The device key
With each event our server computes a device key: a keyed one-way hash (HMAC-SHA256) of your IP address and user agent, shortened to 32 characters. The same browser on the same connection gives the same key, so it can link visits that probably come from one device, on this Site and on other websites that share our analytics. The key cannot be turned back into your IP address or user agent, and neither of those is stored or sent to our analytics provider. Many people can share one connection, for example in an office or on a mobile network, so the key is an approximate signal, not an identity.
Following a link to a company we recommend
A link in an article to a company we recommend would first reach an address on this Site. Our server records the click (the page, where on the page the link sits and which of that company's pages it leads to) and sends you on to that company's website. The address we send you to carries a one-time click ID, your visitor ID, the name of this Site, the page you came from and a signature that shows the link came from this Site, so that company can connect your visit to its website with your visits here. If the rules described under Your privacy choices apply to you, no visitor ID is passed. How this site is funded says which company this is and how we are connected to it.
Contact form messages
A message sent through the contact page reaches us with your email address, your message, an optional name and an approximate country that our hosting provider works out from your connection. We keep no IP address and no user agent with it.
Your message is used for one thing: replying to you. It is stored with a database service provider in the United States and deleted after 12 months at the latest. It is never used for marketing, and the only others who handle it are the service providers that host and store it for us. If you want a message removed earlier, send the request through the same contact page with the email address you wrote from.
Our analytics processor
The events described here go from our server to PostHog, Inc., our analytics processor, together with the visitor ID, the device key and the approximate location. PostHog stores and processes them for us in the United States. Your IP address, user agent, name and email address are never sent to it.
A company we have a business connection with uses the same analytics account for its own website: our analytics account is shared with it, and it can see the events described here. How this site is funded names it.
Cookie and visitor ID
Our server sets one first-party cookie on aisalaryreport.com. It holds a random visitor ID, a count of your visits, the time of your last visit and a check code that shows our server issued it, so we can tell returning visitors from new ones and count visits. Scripts on the page cannot read it, it is sent only to this Site and only over secure connections, and it expires 400 days after your last visit. You can delete it in your browser settings at any time.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Our hosting provider processes request data and our analytics provider processes analytics events, both on our behalf as described above. We disclose information when the law requires it. Our database provider likewise stores messages sent through the contact form on our behalf.
Children
The Site is meant for adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your privacy choices
- Global Privacy Control. A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is honored: we set no cookie and clear any earlier one, compute no device key, leave the visitor ID out of links to a company we recommend, and log your page views only under an anonymous ID that is new each day and different on each site, so no visit is linked to the next.
- Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland. The same rules apply automatically when your connection appears to come from the European Union, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or when we cannot tell where it comes from.
- Your rights. Laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and the GDPR may give you rights of access, correction and deletion, depending on where you live.
